Filby Unveils New Signs in Preparation for Annual Floral Competition

Filby resident, Tom Green, has produced 2 welcoming signs to greet visitors to the village as they drive in through the main road between Caister and Acle.

The mozaic signs depict the Grebe, a local water bird, and flowers that link with the villages history of successes in the Best Kept village competition.

The signs are easy to find on the A1064 at each end of Filby.

The Time Returns to Ludham on the Norfolk Broads

The Time Returns to Ludham on the Norfolk Broads.

A £250,000 restoration project on St Catherine's Church, Ludham in the Norfolk Broads saw it's final stage yesterday when the gilt clock hands were fitted to the painstaking cleaned and renovated 150-year-old steel works.

Around a hundred villagers watched as horologists, from Norwich based Michlmayr Clock and Watch Makers, abseiled down the church tower to put the hands in place.

Rev Neville Khambatta was pleased that the final £4,500 part of the restoration project was now complete on St Catherine's which dates back to the 14th and 15th century and the clock which was built in its 100 ft tower in 1762.

Hickling Village Anger at Norfolk Broads Flooding Plan

On a warm spring day with sunshine glinting on its gently rippling Broad, there can be few more pleasant places to be than Hickling.

Beneath the village's tranquil veneer, however, there is anger and fear.

A week after the EDP revealed how conservation bosses were considering proposals that would ultimately involve surrendering the village and at least five others to the sea, feelings are still running high.

The anger, it seems, is directed not so much at the publicly-funded bodies, including Natural England, the Broads Authority and the Environment Agency, that have been discussing the scheme, but towards the EDP for breaking the news that the proposals were back on the agenda.

In Hickling and surrounding villages, there is an altogether understandable refusal to believe that such a scheme could even be entertained, even though the bodies involved admit that while discussions are at an early stage, they have to be prepared to think ...

Norfolk MP Fights Norfolk Broads Flooding Plan

An MP fighting plans to surrender thousands of acres of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Norfolk to the sea has spoken of his anger and frustration after yesterday meeting senior executives from the government agency behind the proposals.

Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk, had written to Natural England formally asking it to withdraw its draft report setting out four options for dealing with the consequences of climate change in the northern Broads.

The last of these was a proposal to abandon nine miles of sea defences between Eccles and Winterton, flooding an area stretching inland as far as Stalham and Potter Heigham, with the loss of 25sq miles of land, including at least six villages.

Mr Lamb asked Natural England to withdraw the report, claiming no proper analysis had been made of the cost of abandoning the area and that the issue of compensation had not been considered.

He ...

Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, Advertising Campaign

With grey clouds scudding across the sky and holidaymakers wrapped up in raincoats it could be described - not uncharitably - as a typical June day on the East Coast.

But the task of the film crew and actors dodging yesterday's showers and making judicious use of indoor attractions was to show that while <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Yarmouth's weather remains just as unpredictable, the resort has moved on in so many other ways.

As a showcase for its multimillion-pound seafront improvements, the town has lavished £50,000 on a five-week advertising campaign.

A 30-second advert, targeting day-trippers and showing different sides of the resort, will be launched on the evening of June 27 between Emmerdale and Coronation Street, and will be broadcast throughout the Anglia region. Over the following five weeks it will be shown 55 times.

The key slogan for the advert is still being worked on, but the current ...
